The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) trades from Monday to Friday. Friday has a different timetable because of the long break for Jumma prayers. The exchange is closed on weekends and on public and religious holidays.

Odd-lot market
PSX now lists the odd-lot market for ETFs only, because ordinary shares trade in one-share lots (Business Recorder). Odd-lot hours are:
- Monday to Thursday: 9:30 am to 3:30 pm
- Friday: 9:15 am to 12:00 pm and 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm
What the sessions mean
Pre-open
During pre-open you can enter, change or cancel orders, but nothing is traded yet. When pre-open ends, the system works out an opening price that matches as many buy and sell orders as possible. The two-minute break after pre-open is when that matching happens.
As a beginner you do not need to trade in pre-open. It can help if you want your limit order waiting in the queue when the market opens.
Normal trading
This is continuous trading. Orders match as soon as a buyer's price meets a seller's price. Most of the day's volume trades in this window, especially in the first and last hour.
Post-close
The post-close session lets you trade at the closing price only. It is useful if you missed the close and are happy with that day's closing price.
Circuit breakers and market halts
PSX can also stop trading during market hours:
- Stock limits. Each share has a daily price band, usually 10% either side of the previous close (KASB). A share that hits its limit is "locked" at that price.
- Market halt. If the KSE-30 index moves 5% in either direction and stays there for five minutes, PSX halts trading across the whole market for a while (Mettis).
Ramadan timings
PSX shortens its hours in Ramadan. For Ramadan 2026 the market traded:
- Monday to Thursday: 9:15 am to 1:30 pm
- Friday: 9:00 am to 12:30 pm
Source: GTV News.
PSX announces the Ramadan timetable each year shortly before the month starts. Check the PSX notice or your broker for Ramadan 2027 hours.
PSX holidays 2026
PSX publishes its holiday calendar at the start of each year. The official 2026 calendar lists these days:
| Holiday | Date (2026) | Status on 1 Oct |
|---|---|---|
| Kashmir Day | Thursday 5 February | Passed |
| Juma-tul-Wida | Friday 20 March | Passed |
| Eid-ul-Fitr | Saturday 21 to Monday 23 March | Passed |
| Pakistan Day | Monday 23 March | Passed |
| Labour Day | Friday 1 May | Passed |
| Eid-ul-Azha | Tuesday 26 to Thursday 28 May | Passed |
| Youm-e-Takbeer | Thursday 28 May | Passed |
| Ashura | Thursday 25 and Friday 26 June | Passed |
| Independence Day | Friday 14 August | Passed |
| Eid Milad-un-Nabi | Tuesday 25 August | Passed |
| Allama Iqbal Day | Monday 9 November | Upcoming |
| Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas | Friday 25 December | Upcoming |
Some holidays overlap. Pakistan Day fell during Eid-ul-Fitr, and Youm-e-Takbeer during Eid-ul-Azha.
Two things to remember:
- Islamic holidays depend on the moon. Their dates can shift by a day, and PSX confirms them nearer the time.
- PSX can change the calendar. The exchange says it can change the dates. It can also close at short notice if the government declares an extra public holiday. Watch for a PSX notice or a message from your broker.
Remaining market holidays in 2026
From today (1 October 2026), the PSX will be closed on two more weekdays this year:
- Monday 9 November, for Allama Iqbal Day.
- Friday 25 December, for Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas.
Is PSX open today?
Run through these checks:
- Is it Saturday or Sunday? Then PSX is closed.
- Is today in the holiday table above, or in a new PSX notice? Then PSX is closed.
- Is it within trading hours? From Monday to Thursday, the market trades between 9:32 am and 3:30 pm. On Friday it trades from 9:17 am to 12:00 pm and from 2:32 pm to 4:30 pm.
- Is trading halted? On rare days of big moves, a market-wide halt can pause trading during the day.
The quickest live check is our market page. If prices and volumes are moving during trading hours, the market is open. Your broker's app also shows the market status.
Why might PSX be closed on a normal weekday?
- a public or religious holiday from the PSX calendar
- an extra holiday declared by the government at short notice
- a market-wide halt after a big move in the KSE-30
- a rare technical or system problem, which PSX announces
Settlement days and holidays
Since 9 February 2026, PSX trades settle on T+1, one working day after the trade (Business Recorder). Holidays and weekends do not count as working days.
For example, a share bought on Friday 6 November settles on Tuesday 10 November, because Monday 9 November is Iqbal Day. This matters for:
- Dividends. You must buy before the ex-date to get the payout. A holiday can move the last day to buy. Check the dates on our dividends page.
- Withdrawals. Cash from a sale arrives a day later than usual around a holiday.
